Lesson Learned: It’s true; a picture can be worth a thousand words. But in this case, the picture is actually a cross-stitch sampler that can stir up memories, conjure up impressions, appreciate the art form or evoke valuable life lessons that can guide an individual.
I recently discovered several traditional and handcrafted samplers, beautifully framed and hung on the walls of my client’s home. Lovingly created by the client and her grandmother, these decorative examples of folk art in muted colors with finely stitched floral motifs, were not only attractive but also inspirational. My favorite sayings were “Give the world the best you have and the best will come back to you” and “A woman’s place is the world”.
There was one particular sampler that made me chuckle because it invoked a stern message that focused on simplicity: “Make it do, Wear it out, Use it up, Do without”. If followed, this practical reminder would preclude anyone’s need to declutter and downsize their house. No “stuff strategy” needed there!
